| - As a native of New Orleans, LA, born and raised in Uptown, this place right here is THE real deal. I ordered food here today for my fiancé and I, and the food was spectacular.
We ordered the Cajun combo, two catfish poboys dressed, and bread pudding.
First, the Cajun combo: we substituted the gumbo for red beans and rice, and had the crawfish étouffée and jambalaya. ALL VERY GOOD! I felt like I was eating good home cooked food.
Next the catfish poboys: these were great, really enjoyed mine. The cheese was different than what I'm used to having on a poboy, but it was still good none the less.
Last, the bread pudding: loved it. Bread pudding is my favorite dessert- hands down. The whiskey sauce for the bread pudding came on the side; however, I opted to forgo putting it on the dessert because I don't like whiskey (and it had a strong whiskey taste), and the bread pudding was amazing without it!
Overall, the service was good, the lady at the bar was very friendly, the atmosphere felt like I was somewhere relaxing on magazine street- I felt like I was back in my hometown.
I can definitely say any feelings of being homesick, disappeared once I walked inside Baby Kay's, so I'll definitely be ordering from here/ dining here again, and I'll be recommending it to other people.
