| - I was so excited to finally try Corepower Yoga when they opened their first Charlotte location a few weeks ago. They did a great job promoting their opening around town and on social media and definitely got a good buzz going.
I went to Catrina's (the studio manager) demo class when she taught one of Olde Mecklenburg Brewery's Tuesday Yoga on Tap classes in March and loved it. I made sure to sign up to be one of 50 people to get a two week unlimited class free trial when the studio opened.
I challenged myself to attend 13 yoga classes in 13 days and I did it! I don't mess around when it comes to free trials.
This studio has four class types and I recommend trying them in this order:
CorePower Yoga 1 - beginner class that goes through 12 yoga poses and is amazing if you're new to yoga, need a refresher, and/or need a good stretch
Hot Power Fusion - a heated restorative class that incorporates many standing and balancing poses, so you're not on your wrists much
CorePower Yoga 2 - their heated signature class where the instructor uses their own style and is different every time
Yoga Sculpt - a heated class that starts with CPY 2 followed by strength training with many repetitions and a cardio component that I didn't expect, so ladies, make sure you wear the appropriate sports bra
The Good:
-all of the instructors seem to genuinely love yoga and are supportive and encouraging. My favorite classes were with Catrina, Luis, Tiffany Sn, Meher, Keisha and Katharina.
-they have several class times each day, which is great if you don't work normal hours and have options besides going to class super early or late with the masses
-studio is clean and there are lockers where they give you your own little lock for your stuff
-inviting atmosphere, everyone is nice and there's generally an approachable, "yoga is for everybody" vibe about the studio. It's definitely not like the uppity barre studio I went to where the woman next to me literally hit the barre with her pearls! Yes, you'll see plenty of lululemon, but you won't walk in and feel like you don't belong because you're wearing leggings from Target.
-great location with plenty of parking
The Opportunities:
-the studio is much smaller than I expected. They claim the room can fit up to 60 people, which is true, but it will be TIGHT. If you don't like doing yoga close to other participants, I highly recommend avoiding the crowded class times if your schedule allows you to do so.
-the instructors don't offer adjustments as much as I'd like during classes and it would be great if there was an assistant in the room in addition to the instructor. I did avoid the popular class times after the packed opening night class I attended, so I don't know if those classes have assistants. I'd also like to think the instructor didn't adjust me because I'm such a good yogi, but that's doubtful. ;)
-I wish they offered cold lavender hand towels during savasana at the end of class. I go to another yoga studio that has those and I LIVE for that during the hot classes. This might be something the brand decides and the individual studio has no control over, but I did daydream about having that towel during class!
I highly recommend doing the free one week trial the studio offers since you have nothing to lose. I would have continued the monthly unlimited class membership, but I can't justify it with the other class passes I have. I definitely want to come back to this studio in the future though!
