  • Casino: barely 3 stars Restaurants/Shows Available: 4+ stars West Wing: 2 stars West Wing bathroom stalls: 0 stars (see below) MGM Grand is a decent casino, with lots of great restaurants, but there are definitely more Ed Hardy wearing types on this end of the Strip. Don't let them talk you into a room in the West Wing, even if it has a king bed. While quiet and great for sleeping, it's hard to know what time it is and we felt like we were on the Battlestar Galactica. The hallways reminded us of the corridors they used to show on the X-Files...dark government hallways, dimly lit, with little spotlights all over the carpet. It wasn't until we were about to check out that we noticed that the laundry bag/notes/envelopes/pen all had a secret government theme. Top Secret, Confidential, Confessions, Lies, etc...were printed on them all. We had a little laugh at that - coming all the way from DC just to stay in a secretive government themed hotel. I didn't mind it in the end - we got used to it - plus, the standup shower was huge and pretty great (despite the adjuster on the pole for the secondary hand-held showerhead was missing a washer/gasket and held together with part of a bar of soap). But with some ingenuity and a hand towel, we were able to position it so it was like having 2 showerheads. The one thing that we never got used to, though, was the bathroom stall. It was adjacent to the shower, made out of smoked glass, had no fan, and any little sound in there was majorfly amplified. You could even hear little movements in there despite a loud TV. And it was creepy to go to the sink/mirrors while someone was in the bathroom because you could kinda see them sitting on the pot. So for a secretive government theme, the bathroom was a serious privacy FAIL. I'll come back to MGM Grand for the restaurants, and maybe even for a little blackjack, but I won't be staying there again.
