| - I usually stay at The D when I go to Vegas, unless I manage to get a good deal on the strip. This last time, I stayed adjacent to the strip, so I actually had to drive out to Fremont Street. Wednesday night seemed much more alive than I remember and there were two bands playing at opposite ends of the street. Friday night was a First Friday, which is basically when they try to take the kids off of Fremont Street and make it even more PG. Of course, nobody listens and you get funny scenes like a 10-year-old girl shrieking at seeing the topless nun's breasts.
The good: it's a much more walkable version of the strip. In the time/distance that it takes to walk from one casino to the other on the strip, you've basically walked down most of Fremont Street. There is a lot to do - fast food, sit-down restaurants, buffets, the zipline, casinos, buy a giant leg-shaped drink, watch people do dance performances, magic tricks, and even kick a guy in the nuts.
The bad: I honestly do not understand why people insist on bringing their children here. There is much more nudity, drunkenness, and vulgarity on Fremont Street than the main strip. It also gets really crowded.
The ugly: This place serves as a sort of "prude check" for the people you hang out with. Plenty of girls with nothing but thongs and pasties on, and guys with in thongs or other revealing underwear. As mentioned, if it's a very special night, you get to see my favorites, the topless nuns for a good dose of blasphemy.
All said, this is a must try if you haven't been here before. If you have, then you either like it, hate it, or tolerate it because it's inexpensive.
