  • The Morrison YMCA has expanded in recent years, and a new expansion is underway. I frequent this YMCA only on the weekends, as it is close to where I live. Since the expansion about 1-2 years ago, it has gotten a lot better. I love that the treadmills overlook the lobby and parking lot, which is a whole lot better than looking at TV screens. You can run, and people watch, which makes it more fun. The weight room, the machines, the locker rooms -- they're all clean and spacious. Since this is in the heart of the suburbs, expect A LOT of children and teenagers. They get in the way a lot, but it is what it is. Usually, a couple of people are nice, but for the most part, the suburbs tend to create mean-looking zombies who are cold and boring. In the summer, the outdoor pool is really, really busy. They have a lap pool outdoors, but it is not used as a lap pool. This is the only reason I am not rating this Y a 5-starrer. Basically the brats and clueless parents use the lap pool as a playpool. So you cannot do laps in this pool. Which totally sucks. They never budgeted, or got the funding for an indoor lap pool, which is a total shame. This is the only Y in the area that needs a lap pool. Otherwise, I have to drive further, to the Harris Y. As with all other gyms, you have hordes of idiots who circle around the parking lot looking for the closest space to the Y entrance -- so that they can then go on the treadmill to run/walk, and lift weights. Also, people tend to prefer using the automatic door at the entrance, so they don't have to waste energy opening the door themselves. Then they go to lift weights. That's sheep-thinking for you. It gives me a chuckle to witness these silly acts.
