  • Figured I would jump on the Target band-wagon while the going was good. For months we've been hearing about how great Target is going to be and how it taking over Zellers was going to be good things for the department store retail experience... and I would honestly say I have to agree. If I could use two words to describe Target, they would be: Clean and Organized. As soon as I walked in I noticed this and the organization also lead me to a helpful display in the entrance where complimentary store maps could be picked up - very cool! Maybe it's because this location (along with the others) is brand spanking new and it still has that new chain department store smell (ya it's a real thing I just made up), maybe the staff are still working hard and actually care about their workplace (before they assume the typical "hardly working" attitude of department store staff). I can't put my finger on it, but this location had not one hair out of place! Everything and everyone was working and where they were supposed to be. The launch of these Target's also means big business for Starbucks as each Target comes armed with a swanky grab and go S-bux the moment you walk in. The big USA brand name placements didn't end with the caffeine stop, as you walk through you see big name brands that Zellers, The Bay or Sears could never get. Shawn White clothing in the boys section? Apple displays with a full line up of apple approved accessories in the Electronic department? Yes and Yes. I didn't have time to tour the whole store but from what I saw I can say I was impressed. That being said, why the 3 star? Well Target is what it is, another massive chain that looks and feel like a tidy organized version of Zellers. It was cool but meh, the clothes are still discount level and it still has a Walmart-esque feel (as much as I'm sure they hate that comparison). Let's see if they can keep this look and feel up in the year(s) to come. If so, they will force their competition to raise the bar and lower their prices - in that case we all win. Only time will tell Tar-jeh Boutique. Only time will tell! PS - full assortment of super hero t-shirts in the mens section sent my inner nerd on fire. I smell a nerd-splurge a commin'
