| - This is your best bet for dinner in Madison. The food is great, the drinks are great, the service is great. The Old Fashioned, named after Wisconsin's favorite cocktail, is centrally located (it's on the Capital Square), and serves classic Wisconsin comfort food at very reasonable prices. I have dined here many, many times. It is ideal for dates, dinners with friends, business dinners, or a low-key solo lunch. Ideally, I go to The Old Fashioned on Saturday nights for their prime rib special, which (at the time of this writing) consists of a fantastic wedge salad, a generous portion of steak, a baked potato, a huge thing of fried onion strings and "tiger sauce," i.e. horseradish sauce. I get the version with the 8 oz steak (which is somehow always huge anyway) and the whole dinner only costs $19.99. It's an incredible value. Other highlights of The Old Fashioned include great burgers, a huge beer list including hundreds of Wisconsin beers, "lazy susans" to share amongst your table that feature both liver sausage and deviled eggs, and sundaes with booze in them.
