| - This is a great spot to meet a friend for breakfast or brunch and I mean A (one) friend. The restaurant works hard to pack larger parties into the tight space but that's really not their target market. Cafes are typically quaint, smaller tables, intimate atmospheres... The Flying Biscuit, somewhat, desired that feel but didn't quite hit it. Their biscuits became to popular.
Now, by biscuits, I don't mean the kind you want to grab with grease covered chicken fingers. These biscuits are sweeter, a little more dense and have a dusting of sugar on top. Almost more sourdough in texture but not exactly. Delicious, paired with the right breakfast accompaniments but don't expect Bojangles.
The service is fairly quick considering the small space, large groups, issue. I think my friend were in and out within 30 minutes, maybe less. Honestly, we would have sat around a while but we didn't want to hold up a table.
If I could pick a home town for this cafe, it would be Asheville. If you haven't been to Asheville, it's a smallish city with some hippie vibe but surrounded by money. Kind of an odd collection of people but totally unique. That is somewhat how I feel about the menu at Flying Biscuit, too. Some, not so traditional, breakfast items mixed with some more common ones. More expensive than an IHOP but the restaurant wanted a different, unique vibe. Peas in a pod, really.
