  • I was scouting different auto body repair shops to have my wife's 2012 Lexus RX 450h repaired due to a minor fender bender. I had some reasonable quotes, some mediyoker quotes, and some out of this world ridiculous rubbish quotes. I had one place in mind, which was reasonable in price and rating quality on yelp. However, I stumbled across Hi Star Auto with their large shop and banners which states they will beat any quote estimate. Thought, what the heck, I'll stop by and give it a shot...especially with such great reviews and high ratings. Turns out they not only do body repairs, but mechanical auto repairs as well! I asked a couple employees who I could speak to about getting a quote...they referred me to speak to Vigan. Not sure if he is the owner, or son, but seemed like a family business with a father/daughter/son...working the customer service area. I was greeted with respect, and genuine concern. I didn't have anything to hide or be shady about, so I was straight up with Vigan...letting him know that I have other quotes and looking to see if he can beat the quote as advertised. He told me he would see what he could do. He took a look at the SUV, examined the minor damage and felt the body lines like a delicate injury. Vigan then proceeded to snap photos of the SUV, damage and documented the VIN #...he then uploaded the photo into their computer system, along with damage information, work needed and all the criteria. The quote came down to an amazing reasonable $350.00 I was a convinced happy camper and told him that I would definitely give him a call back to schedule an appointment for repair. I kept my promise and gave him that call back...reconfirmed the work to be done as well as the repair quote and he reassured me as he even had it logged in their system. We set up an appointment...and here is where it takes a turn for the worse. We went back at our scheduled appointment looking for Vigan...apparently he does not work there anymore...according to one of their employees...but we shrugged it off as a misunderstanding. No big deal...we get into the office and here comes the older guy (possibly the father) even with the quoted estimate in hand ... he still quotes us over a grand in repairs...justifying the cost by painting other areas of the car and removing panels that was not damaged or no where near the area of the fender bender. Upon trying to reason with him with our promised quote...after the run around...he some how drops the quote to no lower than $800...as if that's not a slap to the face we continue to reason to him asking for Vigan...he then goes on to explain in a frustrated way that Vigan did the estimate wrong. Not saying that this can't happen...but this definitely was an unprofessional way and disregard for the honor system and customer service. They not only wasted my time, but they lost my trust for business and am happy to take my car elsewhere in someone I could trust and be happy to know everything straight up from the get go. I wish I could give this place 5 stars, I wanted to, but with a bad experience they definitely are lacking those quality. I'm not saying to boycott this place, I am sure they do wonderful repairs...but just be aware of getting estimates...definitely do your research before hand, shop around and get estimates before you commit anywhere! Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into and do not fall into a scheme, money pit where they tell you one thing and have to end up doing more and pay more unexpectedly. Know exactly what will be done, how it will be done, what to expect when complete, how long the vehicle will take and the final pricing quote. Buyer beware...
