| - Worst Discount Tire location I've experienced!
Over the last 10 years, I've been going to various locations of discount tire (depending where I am, running errands etc.) and they all, on a standard scale, seem to be extremely honest and best value around for tires + warranty. Hence being a long time customer.
This particular location happens to be close to my office. I called 2/15/17 to get an estimate on 2 new tires and the friendly guy on the phone told me it would be around $120 before tax and warranties. Sounds good (the reason for my minimal - the one guy who did his job right) I told him I'd be in when I got a break.
About 2 hours later, I ran my car over prepared to drop it off and walk back to my office. After the guy that was helping me in the shop inspected my tires, and recommended replacing the front two (duh) brought me in and told me it would cost about $180 to replace my tires before tax and warranties!! I told him I had already called and got an entirely different ESTIMATE! He said he had no idea why I was quoted that price and that this was the real price. What is the point of calling for an estimate if the price is going to be different when I come in??? Disgusted, I told him I would come back another time. In an effort to keep my business that day he said "the best I can do is meet you in the middle. I'll do it for $160." What?! I'm no mathematician but $160 is not "middle ground" between $180 and $120, moreover did I think this was the kind of establishment that participated in bargaining. Did my peyote just kick in? Am I not in a nationwide tire shop?? I said absolutely not and walked away. This is not about money, this is principle!
Fast forward to 2/20/17 I call a different Discount tire location in Tempe, inquiring an estimate for the same 2 tires. This gentleman says "hey! I see you've already called. It looks like we can match your 2 tires for $120 before tax and warranties."
Oh? You can see that??? I explain to him what happened earlier in the week at the other (this Scottsdale and Shea) location, and he says he has no idea how there was any confusion or price difference as they all share the same computer database and the estimate of $120 was clearly indicated in my file!! $140 out the door with tax and warranties is what we agreed on when I made my appointment with discount in Tempe this morning.
I don't know if this is an individual issue or some kind of scam happening at this location but I was extremely disgusted, disheartened and alarmed at the way I was bait and switched. I'm a busy woman, and going down there just to get scammed was a complete waste of my time!! Not only that, but a lesser person might have felt embarrassed or pressured and who knows how many others were overcharged under assumed ignorance or duress!!
I'm a straightforward person in business and I require and expect transparency. I don't know if this is a Scottsdale thing or not, but it's never ok to rip people off whether you think they have money or not!! I'm keeping my distance and business from this location. If I felt like overpaying for tires and services I would go to the car dealership.
