  • I am fortunate in saying that my recent experience with Bob's was much different from most other reviewers....and I was pleasantly surprised. Last week, upon deciding to convert our third bedroom into an office / guest room, my husband and I ventured out to Bob's Discount Furniture. Since the room also contains a sliding glass door that goes out onto our back patio (odd setup, I know), we felt it best to get a sleeper sofa for guests, as opposed to a regular bed. We looked online and did see some less expensive options, but we didn't want to purchase furniture online without seeing it in person first. Also, places like Levin's simply were too expensive. We knew that we would most likely be approached upon entering the store. But, in this case, we were okay with the aggressive salespeople, since we knew what we wanted to purchase. A nice guy named Adam did indeed approach us as soon as we came in and we explained to him that we wanted to buy a sleeper sofa - dark colored but not black, smaller than 7 feet long, etc. He showed us a a few options and we eventually went with one. We did opt for the more expensive mattress, which was way nicer and more comfortable than the standard mattress. But we did not go with the mattress protector or the extended warranty, since it did not cover "paws or claws" damage. We agreed any damage to the sofa would be from one of two small fur babies, and since they wouldn't cover that type of damage, why bother? Adam was friendly, and not pushy. He did mention that salespeople work strictly on commission, which I think would be horrible, but that's just me. My biggest complaint would be with the delivery prices, which are based on a scale. This is just an example, but say purchases from $0 - $499, delivery would be $50. Then $500 - $999 in furniture would be $75, etc. Please don't quote that, I can remember the exact prices, just using that as an example. However, since we were on the lower end of that scale, I suggested to the hubs that we look and see if there is anything else we want that we could add to our delivery, which would keep delivery at the same price. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find anything. However, upon looking around, we did discover Bob's little cafe, which offers free water, coffee, hot tea, and goodies like cookies, wrapped candies, and ice cream. There is a donation box, all of which supposedly goes to various children's charities. Also, there was a sign that said all donations in every store from October through December are matched by Bob's, which is very nice I thought. Prior to leaving, we chose a date for delivery and were told that we would be contacted 2 days prior with a 4-hour window for delivery. This kind of sucks because you then have to make yourself available for the entire day. However, I was off work that day (today) so I guess that's the breaks. We could have very easily borrowed my dad or my brother in law's truck and pick up the couch ourselves, but this time we just didn't want the hassle. Last Saturday, I received a voicemail confirming this Thursday as our delivery date, also leaving a phone number if we needed to cancel or reschedule. On Tuesday, I received another call and a text message, confirming delivery today from 8:45am - 12:45pm. This morning, I got on Bob's website under 'delivery tracker' and was able to see that we were the 4th stop of the day and that ETA was 9:30 - 10am. At 9am, I received a text message stating that delivery was estimated to be at 9:20am. At exactly, 9:20 a truck pulled up in front of my house and two guys got out. I explained that it would be best to come around back and bring the sofa in through the sliding glass door, since that's the room the couch would be in. They asked about carpeting, since it had been raining out earlier, and I said not to worry that we have hardwood floors, it wasn't a big deal anyway. They brought the couch and mattress in, set it up, had me sign for it, and were on there way. Both young guys were pleasant and efficient. Really, I can't complain. It was one of the easiest deliveries I've ever experienced.
