| - Recently in Middleton to see an ill family member and relied on Scott's, pretty much exclusively for nourishment, unexpectedly, as when others more familiar with the area than I arrived to visit, they inevitably brought soup, sandwiches, cookies, more doughnuts, and even bread (it wasn't really a cake sort of situation) from Scotts. We had boxes and bags and flats covering all available surfaces by the time a week had passed.
It was rainin' carbs. Good thing they sell sandwiches and prepared soups: the soup was delicious and not just run of the mill - flavorful, good noodles. The sandwiches were on fresh, fresh, fresh bread, and had plenty of protein (various deli meats, tuna or chicken salad, deli sliced), real cheese, optional lettuce and real tomato slices, with optional spreads to keep me from going dough-nuts.
I came in during the early hours on several days to pick up fresh doughnuts to tempt the tastebuds; there were a wide variety of options for flavors, with filled, iced, sprinkled, etc. options. The staff were helpful, kind, and considerate of my billion plus questions about what they had and item ingredients, even as they were working to make cakes and other pre-orders.
There were still signs up for King Cakes from mid to the end of April. So, there's that. Dem's hard to find up here, I understand.
I'll be honest - it's fairly obvious that I'm not a local and I admit I don't know the local range for various local baked goods from a non-chain / franchise, local bakery - I wasn't put off by their prices given the product and care with which staff provided assistance, though. And I would definitely agree that the overall experience (food and more), is a helluva lot better than crap from dunkies, buckies, stuckies, or any grocery nearby.
Their primary early / mid morning front of house person is a gem. Hardworking and cheerful, his chatty helpfulness provided a cogent minute or two of reality in an otherwise unglued world. And he makes a pretty tasty chicken salad sandwich, IMHO.
