| - If you haven't been to the Hale Theater, you are truly missing out. The Hale presents a variety of comedy plays and musicals each season. I must admit that some of the plays are dated (still entertaining), but the musicals are always top quality. There are also smaller musical productions, usually featuring a quartet of singers. They are fun, but not as lavish as the big musicals.
Last year, their production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" had me smiling and laughing from the opening scene through to the surprising ending. This week friends and I saw "No, No, Nanette", a campy comedy featuring a hilarious grandpa, outstanding singers, and energetic tap dancers. And you can't help but notice the wonderful costumes. Kudos to the designer! They are amazing.
The Hale also does favorites such as "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Little Mermaid". This season includes "Sister Act".
This is a theater in the round, so all seats are good. Prices are very reasonable: $35 if tickets are purchased separately, $24 if you buy a season pass. The season tickets are flexible. Friends and I purchased a pass for only the musicals, and we can choose which nights we want to go. If we want to add a show, additional tickets are also $24.
The theater is surrounded by excellent restaurants, all in a 1-2 block walk. Behind the theater is a huge parking lot.
