  • I had my hair cut yesterday for the first time in years... up to this point I had been cutting it myself. Two years ago I shaved it to the skull and left it to grow. Then I went to see Cheryl. Walking up to the salon I saw the sign out front and knew that I had come to the right place. "Ready for a big change? We love makeovers". Well hell yes! Up the stairs and inside, the space itself is not overly fancy, really almost utilitarian in layout and decor. What made the environment was the stylists and clients, which to my mind is exactly right. The range of styles and people when I visited was broad and intriguing, a healthy eclecticism that seemed to have room for anyone. I would feel comfortable in saying that the mood was set by the people in the room, rather than by the room itself. An interesting approach and one I felt quite comfortable in (remember, this is my first foray into a salon in over 15 years... ) So Cheryl came recommended to me (she cuts my partner's hair) and K came with me for moral support, so I felt somewhat familiar with her work. We talked about what I might like and not like, and we talked about other things as well, sort of a getting to know you session. Cheryl made some suggestions, but for the most part I was open to her doing what she felt would work best given my head, face and attitude... she whacked a big hunk off the back, laughed and said here we go! When I looked at the floor behind the chair there was a hunk of hair probably 6 inches long lying there (when she was finished there was enough hair to construct a good sized cat); I was committed. And I was ready for this change, too. The cut progressed without drama, thought I did laugh once or twice to see how drastic the change was. I had a lot of hair when I sat down, and I no longer have a lot of hair. Which I am very pleased about. I had to go back to work in the evening and the reaction of my cow orkers was unequivocally positive and excited. SO either I really looked dreadful before or Cheryl had done great work. Now I KNOW I did not look dreadful before, though there were days it was kinda ghastly (slept late, no shower, dirty work), so I am giving full props to Cheryl. This morning I woke up and I am very pleased with the change and the haircut. I really wish I had done this sooner, but as K said it had to be when I was ready. I simply had no Idea HOW ready I was. Thank-you, Cheryl and to Parlour for a great hair-do!
