  • I looked for boxty all over Ireland. I read about it and I found out in Ireland that is not such a common thing. It's a traditional plate in Ulster but it's hard to find. The pub advertises it as something from Galway or the West of Ireland. Be aware that it's completely inaccurate since you can only potentially find it in the 9 counties (Ulster). I stopped at this pub on the 19th of September and it was for lunch time. The pub looks very much like any pub in Ireland that I visited in Ireland. I has a relaxed atmosphere and people sitting at the counter enjoying beers. While there I saw a man and a woman have a friendly conversation. I really wanted to try the boxty so I chose the corned beef and cabbage boxty. I also ordered an Angry Orchard cider which was the only cider on tap (I really wanted an Irish cider on tap). The food arrived in 10-15 minutes. The boxty was presenting well and it was placed on top of a generous dish of corned beef and cabbage. The boxty, a potato pancake, was tasty. It was finely mashed and the outside tasted somewhat buttery. I like the potato part but not so much the butter flavor (I'm not a fan of large quantities of butter, especially with potatoes). The corned beef was decent but there was plenty of fat. The cabbage was not amazing because it was plain. All in all I like the boxty was good but what came with it was not so exciting. The cider was great an refreshing. Angry Orchard is not Irish but it's darn good and it's definitely one of my favorite ciders. It very much compares to the ciders I had in Ireland and Northern Ireland. I give this pub 4 stars, primarily for the atmosphere, the music and the boxty. In this pub they play great music because I heard all the great stuff from the late 60s and early 70s (classics from Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, CSN/CSNY, The Byrds, CCR, Bob Dylan and much more). The menu needs some corrections: boxty is from Ulster and not Galway, one dollar sign is missing under the boxty section. I believe this is a good place to relax and meet other folks. All in all, I am a fan and I liked Seamus McCaffrey's (to be accurate, the name of the pub should be fixed to Séamus which is the proper spelling).
