  • Paradise Park Community Center is alive during the summer months. Seniors can participate in Seniorcize, Pickle Ball (what is that anyway?), Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, and MUCH more. I walked by a room that was age restricted. You had to be 50 years of age to enter and hang out and get a cup of coffee. I'll pass in 110 degrees, but the room was filled with seniors enjoying one another's company. The Center offers a number of youth classes including dance, general fitness (tennis, soccer, gymnastics), preschool , marital arts, piano, violin, and swimming. The prices for each class vary. But they are reasonable. Information about classes can be located at http://www.clarkcountynv.gov/Depts/parks/Pages/community-center-paradise.aspx In addition to the specific classes, they offer access to their fitness room for $16 per month or $115 per year. It might not have the sex appeal (and eye candy) of the LVAC on Eastern, but the equipment is is fine shape and I've never seen the space full. They have an "open recreation program" that runs after school from Mon - Fri where kids can participate in organized activities. While a pool and a slide do not equal "water park" in my opinion, the name is not the most important part of the water feature. Many people in this community do not have a pool. The Community Center's pool offers local kids a place to learn to swim and keep cool in the hot summer months. This location offers a safe and welcoming space for people in the community to learn new skills, come together, and get fit. The teachers are knowledgeable and incredibly helpful and the staff members greet regular participants by name. The park that it is connected to may not engender great excitement form visitors, but the Center must be considered on its own merits. I know that it is popular to dismiss a working class area and its amenities as "ghetto" or "cheap". The Community Center is neither. It would be a shame to reduce this vital space to an insensitive generalization. It is well maintained, necessary, and it is supporting the people living in this neighborhood. I think it is pretty wonderful.
