  • All I do is Wynn Wynn Wynn :3 After scouting out the popular buffets at the Strip, the Wynn seemed to have the best value ($36 weekend brunch). Wicked Spoon ($36) and Bellagio ($33) don't offer the carving station at brunch, while Bacchanal ($54) has extensive variety but to the point that it saturates your stomach space and makes decisions extremely difficult. Oh, first world problems. =Brunch Noms= (++) Orange & white chocolate French toast - The French toast is stuffed! I like the chewy pieces of candied orange, though you need to have a some degree of a sweet tooth to enjoy this. (+) Lemon & ricotta beignets - Very ricotta, some lemon, minimally beignet. Essentially, it's a huge chunk of ricotta infused with a hint of lemon, wrapped in a thin crepe-like coating. (+++) Maryland crab cake Benedict with Old Bay Hollandaise - One of the highlights of the meal! Despite the recent warnings about toxins found in crabs due to algae blooms, there is no denying crab cake Benedicts from a Vegas brunch buffet. The crab cakes were not diluted by starchy filer, consisting almost entirely of pulled crab meat seasoned with herbs and a thin crispy fried coating. (+++) Shrimp & Grits - Comfort food at its finest. (and it's not even fried!) Juicy shrimp, nutty grits, a blend of cheese and spice, all around good flavor. =Carved to order= (++) Rotisserie roasted prime rib - Quite good, though not the best beef I've ever had. Be warned that the horseradish is the real deal i.e. it's as strong as wasabi (+) 5 spice and honey glazed ham - I asked for a small piece of the prime rib and a small piece of ham, and I ended up with a small piece of prime rib and a huge slab of ham. Go figure. Portion issues aside, the ham had a bit of a course texture but was otherwise nice and smokey with honey overtones (+) Rotisserie chicken - Latin style, with decent chicken flavor that paired well with the leek; however it's on the dry side in comparison to your typical Costco rotisserie chicken (+/-) Char siu ribs - Creative concept, but unfortunately turned out more like dry ribs in need of BBQ sauce (+/-) Asian BBQ bacon - Again, better in concept. There were gigantic strips of fat making only the top half edible, which overwhelmed the pepperiness of the crust =Healthy= (++) Red kale salad with sea salt caramel vinaigrette - Hurray for vegetables in Vegas! Avant-garde blend of nutty, almost bitter red kale along with a tangy vinaigrette. The leaves were fresh and crisp (++) Charred octopus with cucumber miso salad - The big triangular plate can be infuriating if you are trying to cram a lot of fod onto your plate, but the octopus was prepared well. You can really taste the charredness, and it wasn't too chewy (-) Green tea chia seed parfait - Could definitely use more green tea, and I couldn't find any chia seeds o.O It was also odd that it tasted like panna cotta but the consistency was closer to parfait =International= (+) Shrimp panko - Lol it's fried but not panko; nonetheless, good balance of a big juicy shrimp fried golden crispy (+) Thai sweet chili chicken wings - I would have liked more chili and less sweet, but I like the Thai spin on fried chicken wings =Dessert= (+++) Crackerjack cake - A clever interpretation on crackerjack! The cake features a crisp middle layer, flanked by a mild caramel cake and a Graham-cracker-like crust. Brings the nostalgia of crackerjack to a craft dessert (++) Tiramisu - sufficiently alcoholic P: Apparently it's sugarless, but I think they use an artificial sugar because it was mildly sweet (+) Yuzu citrus cake - Very citrusy; I would have liked the more nuanced flavors of yuzu (-) Mango sorbet - Maybe it's my own fault for having Jean-Philippe mango sorbet the day before, but this was not very mango-y (+) Thai tea pudding - Yummy rendition of Thai tea into a pudding, with the condensed milk layer replaced by sweet cream The ambiance is simply beautiful. Unlike much of the decor in Vegas which can easily fall into the tackiness, the Buffet at the Wynn remains elegant. The atrium features a tall glass ceiling with columns of flowers and fruit, and the rest of the dining area has vibrant colors. It reminds me a bit of Alice in Wonderland (or a less wonky version of Willy Wonka, since the dessert area contains a chocolate fountain with a grand display of candies).
