  • We regularly visit the Handels in Encinitas, CA, so we were delighted to find one here and stopped by to get some ice cream. The ice cream and service are "5-star" excellent, just like back home; however, one star off for the the lack of indoor seating. The shop is set up like the one in California with a counter and service staff waiting on multiple customers at once. There are varied and innovative flavors with tastes provided. The service is prompt and friendly, and any line moves quickly. This setup works well in Encinitas' coastal location where summer temps are moderate; however, in Gilbert's sizzling heat, a cone or cup of ice cream soon turns into a creamy mess outside, even at night. I'm not sure how this shop will be able to address that problem, but I think summer business may be adversely impacted until they do. In the meantime, be prepared to eat your ice cream in your air conditioned vehicle, or bring a small ice chest and buy some pints/quarts to enjoy at home. The ice cream is worth it!!!
