| - Ah, Einsteins ... how I love thee. And I'm not a 18 year old engineering student! Shockers!
How can this be, you ask? Most of my colleagues ask the same question, and this is my answer - this is one of the best bars in Toronto. If you're looking for no frills, no pretension, or sense/care of style, this is your bar. The beer selection is good, the food is absolutely fantastic pub grub (the wings and nachos are glorious), and the prices are wonderful - a stein of the Stein (their local house brew) goes for $6.
Let me say that again - a liter of beer is Six Dollars. In Toronto. And it's not total swill. And you can get a massive plate of good nachos for $11-$13. Or a plate of wings for $10. The prices alone make this place worth a visit.
Some final words - this place is not for the faint of heart. It's mostly undergrads here, and the service is quick-tempered and sassy. It can get really loud, and to say it is a bit grimy ... well, that is an understatement. But if you're tired of these faux-British pubs that crowd out good bars in Toronto, or if you're looking for a place which is both consistently good and humble, then go to Einsteins. You may disagree, but I'm a Brooklynite who knows what makes a good bar, and I say you won't regret it.
P.S. Try the Apfelkorn. To this day I still don't know what it is, exactly. All I know is that it's $2/shot, and it tastes like apple juice. Except after a stein and 4-5 shots, you can't stand up anymore. Good times, good times.
