| - Went today to receive a shellac (gel) manicure. First off, upon seeing the other reviews , I can guarantee that Sara definitely was not the one who did my nails. (She seems to be the one who received favorable reviews before) Unfortunately, all I know about this employee is that she is Asian and has worked 2 previous places in the CU area and says she prefers her current location. Anyway, my manicure started off ok. When it was time for the color, she went to another client of hers and had another girl take over. I know that employees often switch off so they can help other clients., I guess it would have been kind of nice, however, if she would have allowed the same girl to finish up my color instead of after 1 coat later jumping in to finish it off!She just should have stayed with her other client instead. The lady who was applying my color to my nails was careful and methodical in the application. I like that because it shows me that she cares about the way my nails turn out and to me, that is how a true professional should be! When the original lady jumped in and (I think) rudely told the other girl to attend to someone else, (1 coat later), she very quickly finished my color up! After my nails were colored, the lady went to attend to yet another client! She instructed me to dry my nails 3x each under the heater. After doing this my nails still felt sticky on the edges and I was hesitant to touch the rest of them for fear I would make a dent. So I continued to place them under the heater a few more times. Upon noticing this, she came over to see what was going on, I told her and she just politely giggled and said it was fine , she just needed to rub some alcohol on the tips and they won't be sticky anymore. ( which they weren't but still...) If the Asian (Vietnamese)? lady ( sorry didn't get any names) had only let the younger African American lady finish up my color , I would not have had this problem with the stickiness underneath my nails... as she was carful applying the color and was sure to smooth off the ends! ( she really should have finished up the rest of the manicure or else I wouldn't be writing this review)!
On a previous manicure trip to an Arcola salon w a friend, same manicure, the lady there lotioned my hands AND halfway up my arms in addition to doing my cuticles before even starting the main part of the manicure!! Pretty Nails in Urbana does the same. When I asked here if they applied lotion, she said it would be extra bc they were 'professional'. Is it also considered 'professional' to not trim the cuticles?' Hmmm whatever.... the lady who did my nails said she had 12 years experience. It doesn't seem this way in my opinion and I do not believe it was worth the 90$ for my daughter and I to receive the same manicure at this place! Even if my daughter was fortunate enough to have the same person do her nails. After seeing these pics and taking a closer look, this prompted me to write this review. I may consider adding another star OR two if I get a refund for my manicure! We will see what happens...
