| - I decided to take my girlfriend here for a nice dinner Upon arrival, I was skeptical based on the restaurant's outward appearance. However, we all know to never judge a book by it's cover.
We had 5:30 reservations and we arrived fashionably late at 5:45. It was 5:46 when we checked in with the host and she said that they can only hold reservations for 15 minutes, so we had to go back on the wait list. Initially I thought "we are 16 minutes late.. can you cut us some slack?" I wasn't upset though because she was right. No harm, no foul. Next time we will have to leave earlier. Regardless, we only waited about 2 minutes before being seated, which was great.
Service: our server was Jeremey. He was fantastic. He was well aware of us the entire time and most importantly, he kept our drinks full. Jeremey was polite and professional and he exemplifies the closest thing to a perfect server.
Atmosphere: bring your night vision goggles because this place is dark! In all seriousness, it's dim, calming, and pretty quiet. Ideal for a nice dinner or special occasion.
Food and Drinks: we took advantage of the happy hour specials, so we had wells mixed drinks, half off appetizer, and steaks. Everything was delicious.
Drinks
- Me: Gin and Tonic
- Girlfriend: Whiskey Coke
Appetizer: Spicy Mussels
- These were heavenly. The joy you experience while eating these is comparable to the joy you felt as a kid on Christmas morning. We demolished the mussels and we couldn't stop eating the spicy red sauce that was left over. I highly recommend this.
Entree
Me: 14oz New York Strip and Garlic Mashed Potatoes
- The steak was amazing! I love New York strips because of how lean and tender they are. This steak was the leanest steak I've ever had (hardly any fat) and it was cooked to perfection. I also added the Herbs and Rye rub, which was solid.
- The garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. I enjoyed that they weren't overly complicated and rich.
Girlfriend: 14oz New York Strip and Truffle Mac and Cheese
- she loved her steak! She also says that she enjoyed how lean, tender, and flavorful it was.
- Megan (girlfriend) fell in love with the Mac and cheese. I'm pretty sure she would have no issues leaving me for a bowl of this Mac and cheese. She said it was the best she had ever had, which means a lot considering she is a Mac and cheese fanatic that has tried them all.
Overall, we love Herbs and Rye and will certainly be back soon. If you have not tried this place yet, put it at the top of your list of places to try!
