| - Went on Christmas Eve, since D.C. is known as one of the hardest working people in show business. A friend of ours worked for him, and it was two shows a day 365 days a year seemingly without sleep unless you had two shows in the same town and got to sleep in a hotel. He never revealed the tricks to us, either, but after the MGM show I saw, it isn't necessary. Much of his magic is heavily reliant on the large video screen that most people watch instead of the magician.
This show is maybe meant to be some Hollywood hodgepodge of Iron Man and The Prestige, a dull story about his father that offended evangelicals, an overall steampunk meets Johnny Rockets ode to Spielberg, and that weird bit with the alien at the end. Language and content is definitely PG 13 not G. I wouldn't want my kids wishing people "GD Merry Christmas and GD Happy Hanukkah." He seemed a little bitter doing the show, and there were some sexist and racist "jokes".
I think they select people who are foreign tourists or don't speak English well. They ask you to email them where you're from and show a map at the beginning of the show. Plenty of people were from California, but most of the audience participants were from China. It was very easy to coach them on the mentalism.
There are some good tricks, and D.C. still masters conjuring and vanishing. Points deducted for the rambling and vulgarity and another point deducted for half the show dedicated entirely to the farting blue animatronic pottymouth alien. That isn't magic.
