  • The reason that I'm submitting a review here is because on their website, it was not able to find my confirmation number to allow me to submit a review - which is just such an appropriate reflection of the frustrations I've experienced at this hotel. I checked in with 2 co-workers of mine because we were in town for a conference and this hotel was listed on the conference website, so many conference go-ers were staying here. We all had our own reservations and own rooms to stay in. The front desk worker asked for my name and then one of my coworker's name. He started checking us in, not the 3rd person. He then stated here's your room. We said wait, we each have a reservation for our own rooms. He said I'm sorry but we gave your room away because we're over booked. Frustrated we insisted that we made these reservations weeks in advance and don't understand why this would happen. He said you have to share a room otherwise I don't have a place for you to stay. I found it completely inappropriate for them to assume that we can just book up with another person and not even ask but tell us we have no other choice. There was no phone call ahead of time or asking if we were okay with this, just a sorry this is your only option. So he said he'd give us a suite with 2 bed. We accepted because what other option do we have? We went to check into our room and my key did not work. I went ahead of my forced roommate so had to wait. Her key did work but when we walked in the room, there was one king bed. So I headed back down to the front desk, told him my key doesn't work and there's only one bed. He said the couch pulls out. Again frustrated I said you just told us there were two beds in this room. Again he said he's sorry but this is the only option. He then proceeded to try and fix my key, which again when I returned to the room didn't work. We then touched based with our 3rd coworker and he ended up in a room with 2 beds. Why not assign the single person the king room and the 2 roommates (that you forced to share) the double bed room? We ended up switching on our own. The nice part of this that made me cool my jets after this 40 minute mess, was the front desk attendant offered to help us arrange a dinner and pay for our dinner. We already had reservations with a group of people so we told him we have a place to eat, took the hotel shuttle and then brought back our receipts. When we turned in our receipts he continued to make comments like oh wow you didn't hold back or wow this is a lot. He told us as long as it wasn't quote "like $500". The total was $110. He then had to double check that this was an option but in the end did refund the money. Overall, the hotel is nice, complimentary breakfast and happy hour is a bonus for those who stay. (Unfortunately, by the time we checked in we didn't get to take advantage of the happy hour). But in the end, I'm still frustrated and find it absurd for the hotel to just assume that we'd be okay sharing rooms, and offended that they didn't ask our permission. We had a reservation and we booked it under the conference name. They put us in a position that we had zero options because of a fault of theirs. Honestly, I'd rather have been giving a free room at another hotel or a voucher to use the room we should've had another time when we visit. Luckily we were traveling as a small group and had the option of doubling up. If I was traveling alone, what would I have done? Madison is a large place so I will absolutely pick ANY other hotel every time in the future.
