| - Over our years of visiting "Hawai'i's 9th Island" or Las Vegas for either business or leisure, we have bounced around staying in different hotels down The Strip. Our usual choice is to stay at the Vdara in City Center but for our last couple of visits, we have selected the Monte Carlo because of its convenience, friendly staff and value.
The rooms are basic and kept quite well. But... this MGM Grand property is one of the oldest and in recent times has needed major updating in light of its much newer neighbors, the City Center, T-Mobile Arena and The Park.
Unfortunately, during our recent vacations here, the resort has been undergoing the needed renovations which has caused some uncomfortable issues. For example, on night (back in May 2017), we all awakened by the horrible smell of grease trap cleaning. Also, the shower head was unusually forceful in our room. At least the beds were comfortable and the flat screen television offered nice entertainment. We certainly enjoyed our morning or afternoon caffeine fixes at Sambalatte Café.
Fast forwarding to late January 2018, this hotel property has made and is still in the process of converting its 32 floor hotel into The Park MGM with its upper floors converting into a boutique NoMad Las Vegas. Gone are the Sambalatte Café, food court and the shops along the backside of the hotel leading to the monorail and connection to the Aria. Instead, they've created a separate wing called "Hotel 32". We lucked out on this trip to have been booked into a hotel room on the the 31st floor overlooking The Strip at a great promotional rate.
We look forward to returning maybe mid-year to take advantage of a promotion offered to us M-Life members as we're quite certain that all the construction or renovation will be completed by then.
