  • In general, I love the body shop and have been a frequent visitor of their cute and fragrant stores all over the world. I often go to one of these stores for gifts and occasionally (ok maybe not so occasionally) I also pamper myself when I am there, with some peppermint foot lotion or cocoa body butter. Having said that, the store in the bloor west village is not one of my favorites. I would even go so far as to say that I probably won't be visiting it again, barring some sort of gift emergency. I live in this neighborhood, and generally, I love the feel of this area. The shops are relaxed and everyone is friendly and polite. However, more than once I have found the staff at the bloor west village location of the body shop to be snooty. Before this evening, I was never at the receiving end of any rudeness or coldness personally, although I witnessed it twice. Today however, that changed. I made the mistake of attempting to use a coupon that I'd recieved via email at the shop, and was quickly put in my place. I was asked if I hadn't come in earlier using the same coupon. I said that I hadn't used the coupon in question, and even produced my receipt from earlier showing that I hadn't used the coupon that I was presenting now. At this point, the clerk proceeded to inform me that I ought to have printed out the coupon and not tried to use it on my iphone, in order to avoid this sort of confusion. I pointed out to her that the coupon clearly stated that I could bring it in print form or on a smart phone. In addition, I asked how prinitng it out would help prevent people from using the same coupon twice (they could after all print the same coupon twice). In response, she said that she would let me use the coupon today if I "promised not to use the coupon twice". I was also asked to bring a print out the next time. There was absolutely no apology included in this exchange, just an icy voice and a plastic smile. I found her tone condescending, and the use of the word 'promise' particularly inappropriate and patronising. I've never been treated in such an odd and rude way at a shop before. All this because I went Christmas shopping at the body shop in the morning and then realized I needed one more present for my partner's aunt and hurried back.
