We were planning since winter that we have to visit a "cabane a sucre" in spring as it would be a good way for me to learn about the Quebec culture. Finally we did today on this beautiful sunny Saturday and where else but a classic sugar shack : La Goudrelle in Mont St Gregoire!
We were a group of 24 people consisting of adult and young children. This place really caters to people of all ages!
The quality of the food, the maple syrup, the activities, the mini farm, the horse ride and the mini tour ride in the woods kept us busy the entire afternoon!
The brunch was good and hearty for a sugar shack and the refills came in pretty fast! We had specifically asked for vegetarian meals and despite being limited for choice, we had a great variety and everyone enjoyed the meal. The starters consisted of various salads and coleslaws followed by omelette and fried potatoes and ending with maple doughnuts, tarts and fritters which were delicious! Just writing about it all is making me feel so sleepy from all the food & sweets we had and all the activites we did!
The only aspect in which La Goudrelle didn't meet our expectations and was a real disappointment was the line up for the dining area. It literally took us 2 hours before being seated.. the line management was very poor, even though we had reserved, it felt like the place was overbooked and over crowded.
Overall, I recommend you to visit with friends and family once in a while so you can appreciate the natural beauty of Canada and what it is famous for - Maple Syrup :)!
