  • For several years, I would visit Dr. Bonacci periodically if I was having back, neck or shoulder pain, and he was usually able to get me fixed up in one or two visits. Unlike other chiropractors I have been to, his goal is the get you fixed and out, not making you dependent on visits 2-3 times per month....he really wants you healthy and not needing continuous care. He recommends periodic visits just to ensure a healthy spine, but not a dependency. In 2012, I was injured, while visiting family out of state in a very odd way: playing dodgeball with the kids at Christmas. I quickly swung my hips to one side while dodging a ball, and tweaked something in my lower back badly. For the rest of our trip, it got progressively worse. By the time I got home, I could barely move. I immediately called Dr. Bonacci's office and booked his next available slot (I have always been able to get an appointment within a day or two, sometimes same day). Before he even touched me, he thoroughly evaluated the location and extent of my injury, and did some very minor adjustments to get me walking easier, but remained cautious and wouldn't do much more than that until a CT scan to ensure there was no actual soft-tissue or disc damage. Once he confirmed there was no damage, he started treating the injury. Unlike other chiropractors, who tell you after an adjustment "you may be sore for a bit, but that's normal", I walk out of there feeling 10 times better. It really is amazing. His goal was to get me straightened out (both literally and figuratively) within 3-4 months...we started weekly, then went to every other week, then every third week. And after 4 months, I think it was 8 or 9 total appointments, I was good to go. It was like it never happened. Now, I try to see him monthly, or when that particular injury flares up again due to some physical activity I was doing for too long. If I was good about doing the exercises he has given me everyday, (twice a day if doing anything that typically causes a flare up) I could probably prevent it all together, but I'm not, and he's fun to visit. If your back is healthy, he may do some traditional cracking, but usually only a little bit, which I am very happy about, because I HATE the cracking. His primary method doesn't just work the back, but he evaluates and treats the entire musculoskeletal system. He ensures everything is working together like they are supposed to. I'm frequently very surprised when I go in and say "I have pain in my lower back", and he would have me lay on my back (not on my stomach, which always seems odd) and start working on deep muscles under my hip bones, in my lower abdomen and stretching out my hamstrings. Only then does he touch my back. The techniques he uses on my back are extremely dependent on the condition I am in, which he evaluates before touching you ensure he does not exacerbate the issue. And EVERY TIME, I walk out feeling loads better. His unique, multidisciplinary therapy approach to back pain, uses a physical therapy masseuse, traditional adjustments and some other weird things I've never seen other chiropractors use. The massage therapist there is also awesome. Depending on my current issue, I will work with her anywhere from 5-20 minutes. He tells her what muscles are likely to be tight, and she works them out until they loosen up. It hurts like hell sometimes, but it's a good hurt....not a relaxing massage, but I definitely feel better when she's done with me. He also gives you an explanation/demonstration of exercises that will help with your particular injury, that you can do at home in less than 10 minutes. If I am good at doing the exercises he assigns, I can easily double the amount of time between appointments, maybe triple. I like this because I get to feel like I am in control of my own body. Lastly, Dr Bonacci is smart, funny and relaxing to talk to, and his prices are very reasonable if you are under or uninsured. I live 10 minutes south of him now, but we are moving 20 minutes further south. At 30 minutes away, I will probably change doctors and dentists, but I will not be changing chiropractors.
