| - Booking a tour of the Basilique Notre-Dame was one of the only things I did in advance of our trip to the city, and it turned out to be the best decision of the week.
Since we went during the holidays, the church was offering a special VIP tour that took tourists all over the main church, chapel, into the basement, and up to the organ. For $10/head, the church assigned each group an English or French-speaking guide for about an hour. During the tour, we learned about the history of the church, as well as a number of fun facts. There was also plenty of time to admire the beautiful woodwork and stained glass found throughout the building. The tour was most strenuous when climbing up the steps to the upper levels, where the organ is located.
As a surprise bonus to JJ and I, after the tour was finished, the church put on a Christmas concert with the big organ, so the church was filled with music while we continued to admire the craftmanship within the building.
This church was the attraction I was most excited about visiting before I went to Montreal, and the hype was real. Take a tour of the church and you will absolutely get your money's worth.
