| - Eating at Bacchanal is like running a marathon with a free-for-all route: you have to not only pace yourself well, but also be meticulously selective about every cc of your stomach space.
TL;DR most important tips:
*Scout the terrain before you start getting food. A lot of yummy-looking food is near the front, but you don't want to stuff yourself with red velvet pancakes and missing out on the truffle scalloped potatoes
*Think twice about what you get. The fried chicken and waffle fries in the mini fryer basket looks extremely photogenic, but lobster bisque is a far better use of your calorie allowance
*Go with a group so you can share food. Although items are already in small portions, you can try more stuff with bite-sized sampling (and get seconds accordingly!)
We came for brunch, which was a hefty $54 (sans drinks). It costs quite a bit more than the other big fancy buffets at the Strip, but Bacchanal does feature excellent quality and variety. A lifehack that some people use is to come in the middle of the afternoon so they can get the dinner food at lunch prices.
(++) Favorites:
- Lobsta bisque (you can really taste the lobster!)
- Paella (good flavor and juicy shrimp)
- Truffle scalloped potatoes (almost tastes like mac n cheese, except with more intriguing texture and aromatic truffle-ness)
- Anything pasta (creative pasta dishes, exceeded my expectations. I liked the giant ravioli and gemelli pastas)
(+) Recommended:
- Steak n eggs (really good steak and nice runny egg)
- Crab Benedict (a tasty way to enjoy crab if you don't like peeling the crab legs like me)
- Salads (given the scarcity of vegetables in Vegas)
- Siu mai (Chinese food isn't the first thing to cross my mind at Bacchanal, but this is conveniently bite-sized and appears made from scratch)
- Juice (usually not a fan, but it was fresh and there was a unique selection including watermelon)
- Lava cake (it's even kept heated)
(-) Pass:
- Fried chicken & waffle fries (nothing special; and yes, I did fall for the presentation)
- Red velvet pancakes (yes I fell for the presentation again)
- Desserts in general (too sweet in my opinion and nothing mind-blowing)
Service was great too; all the food is constantly refilled and the staff are very nice about helping you clear the plates. This is one of the few buffets where you can plow through endless plates, yet still feel classy.
The verdict? Worth it at least once for the experience. Despite its location in Caesar's Palace, I'm not even sure if Caesar himself typically ate this grandly.
