  • I had taken my guitar to B&D for a setup. I was told that a setup wouldn't be able to be done for 8 weeks and that my new Fender neck was warped and it should be returned or sold. After a day of contemplation, I noticed reviews for Beck's. Since i love my guitar, i thought it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion. And boy am I glad I did. I met Rich and gave him a history of the guitar, he asked me some specific questions about what i was looking for in a setup and had me plug in and play. To be clear, i had performed the original setup on the guitar and found that i had the action so high to keep it from fret buzzing. After playing, he informed me that it was a condition of two things, 1) I strum the strings like King Kong and 2) the action was high and the setup was far from playable. After a few licks and minutes, Rich clearly stated that while the neck wasn't perfect, it could be worked with and a setup would be possible. He was clear on what I could expect, what was possible and could commit to a reasonable schedule (a few days since i met him on Friday). I picked up my guitar on Tuesday during my lunch. From the first feel of the neck the action felt smooth and comfortable. I tempered my strumming down a bit and went through the same licks. I was playing more comfortably, faster, still great tone and the notes/chords didn't fret out. I was so satisfied with the immediate results I tipped him another $20. Not because I had to, but because that is how much I appreciated his work, his ethics and time. Rich was real honest with me and assured me that if it wasn't 100% completely satisfied he would make it right. This was almost a week ago. I look forward to playing each night i get home. If you have a guitar and are having issues with it, go see Rich. He's a true craftsman. Thank you Rich!
