  • I've been procrastinating for awhile now on writing my review for The JAM. I don't know why though!! Maybe because of the love for it, my review wouldn't have had much insight, other than "I love it, you will love it, go". lol! So recently, I took the time, to really pay attention, so that I could give a thorough review, finally. The Jam is literally the class I go to when I need to be motivated to begin my workout routine again when i've been in slack mode & I need motivation & inspiration to get off my butt. This is the only class that gets me going again. I regularly go to the 90 minute Mega Mixtape class. 90 minutes of consistent dance can seem like a lot, but trust me, it'll fly by with The Jam! I also sometimes attend other classes & special events. For ex, they did a class dedicated to the Jacksons & who doesn't love BEY-DAY?!?! They currenly have classes at Sugar Creek Brewery every Thursday & I hear those are a lot of fun. Erica, the main instructor, is soooooooooooooooo extra!!! & it is so necessary & you will love every minute of it. I'm kind of shy on top of all of my sarcasm lol. It takes me a bit to warm up to something new but her energy helps me feel comfortable. I have never been to a class where her energy isn't at a level of 50 on a scale of 1-10. I seriously don't know how she does it. Everything about her, from her dance moves, to her humor, to the things she says, will have you 1000% engaged!!! She always seems super happy to be there. She's human, i'm sure there are days she just doesn't want to deal with it, but you would never be able to tell when those days are. It's pretty amazing to watch. She's a natural at instructing, motivating, entertaining & dancing. The song selection is very broad!! There is something for literally everyone. Hip hop, Jazz, Latin, Pop, etc. There are a few songs that I wouldn't typically play on my own & never heard before, that i've fallen in love with. But I don't know the names to request them lol!! They take requests on their Facebook page. The classes are so much fun! How can a class be so fun but make you sweat & hurt so much? Also, Erica makes sure you use your body correctly for the dances & their moves are an actual workout. I've been to dance classes where we are just there to 2 step or twerk, but not The Jam. Well you will twerk lol, but they also incorperate a lot of moves that help with conditioning. You will leave sore! So it's not just a "Oh hey, come & dance" class, it is an actual WORKOUT dance class. The Jam is also for the everyday woman. The woman who can struggle with their weight, but want to lose weight & not feel judged when they slip. The Jam makes sure you are comfortable & that you understand, we are all only human, & tells you about the slice of cake they plan to have after class lol. Their are also other instructors who teach for the Jam other than the owner, Erica. Lizzy is my next Fav, she used to have her own class but has recently had the cutest baby girl. Not sure if she will start up her own class under the Jam again, but you can catch her in class with Erica. There's also Simone & Gina who are also great. Want to laugh even more? Join their Facebook page. I believe Jess or Marlo run that. Pretty funny stuff. I've had the pleasure of speaking to Marlo a few times, very nice & personable. Even their email when you're about to run out of class passes is funny. I chuckle each time I get it. The Jams branding & online presence is amazing. The negatives... though they are not deal breakers, just things that could improve. I've had a few friends point out the same things to me & I refused to see it at first, but now I can see their POVs a bit better. The JAM classes can come off kind of clique-ish. What I mean is, the instructors pay more attention to their core group of friends who attend the classes. Exs, one of their friends drops it low, they get woohoo's & hollers. In the same dance, I've see some other ladies really drop it low, not a peep of attention ever. I've had some of them just about stand on my toes to be in the front when the class splits in half for a dance. Now I get a lot of these people are also helpers & they are necessary at times, but they only talk to each other & at the very least, acknowledge me standing there & ask me to slide before you stand on top of me. When class starts maybe tell us who they are & how to move when the class forms splits or circles or turns around. Just so they don't come off so rude or "i'm better than you", which they can at times. The other thing that could improve is the new song introduction. It can get kind of repetitive with the songs & moves. I feel a new song should be introduced at least twice a month & kept in rotation. It's ok for a song to retire, as long as it's not Beyonce :-) Bottom line is, if you're looking for a fun class, that works your entire body while also keeping you engaged, the Jam is your Jam, "I love it, you will love it, go".
