Ladies who are changing their last name after marriage:
Documents to bring:
Marriage Certificate
Social Security Card
Drivers license/ I.D.
Birth Certificate
When you pull up and are facing the building, park on your left side. There's a door on the side of the building (suite B) that's where you need to go for name change. No drugs or weapons, your purse will be checked at the door. Phone must be on vibrate. Sign in on the touch screen computer and wait to be called. I came on a Friday around 12pm and only waited for about 10 minutes. Nice people and easy process.
**NOTE** when you're done with the SSA office, wait 2 days before you go to the MVD (for your name to update in the system) At the MVD YOU WILL NEED A CERTIFIED COPY OF YOUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE. The original you received when you got married wont do (its basically a souvenir copy, but somehow the SSA accepts it) If you didn't pay for one at the time of marriage, you can still obtain one from the courthouse you got married at. It will cost around $27. You can request to have it mailed to you for an extra shipping fee.
When you have your certified copy of your marriage certificate and waited 48 hours after the SSA office, you can head to the MVD or third party MVD. The cost for a new drivers license will be $12. They WILL take a new picture of you so be picture ready!! You'll receive your new drivers license in the mail in about 2 weeks
Happy name changing!
