  • Go somewhere else! Went to Right Toyota today because they were having a Memorial Day cookout and sent a mailer with a key that could win you a 4Runner. I test drove a car. The salesman, Adam, was very nice. Once we finished the test drive, we went inside to talk about numbers, and here is where the 1 Star score comes from. Adam gave me a quote with me paying 30% down and 36 months financing. When I asked for an interest rate, he said it would be somewhere below 7%. REALLY??!?!?!?!?!!? Who has enough cash for a 30% down payment sitting around? And seriously, an interest rate "somewhere below 7%"???? How many commercials do I see on a daily basis for 0% for 60 months on a new Toyota? I was also informed that Right Toyota prefers to do short term financing contracts so customers don't pay so much interest and the Dealership doesn't have to wait so long to have the car paid off. Then I was given a lease option. We went back and forth about different down payment options and longer term financing - typical car dealership experience. The bad experience comes from 1) being presented with a ridiculous offer from the start; 2) Adam took down my personal information and had me sign a form "just agreeing that your information is correct" without telling me that he was about to run a HARD CREDIT INQUIRY!; 3) When I told Adam I wasn't prepared to purchase a car today, he had someone from "Fleet" (I think his name was Fabio?) come out to give me the "best deal of the day". This "Fleet" guy was a piece of work! He reminded me of the people who try to talk you in to Time Shares. "What do I have to do to get you to purchase a car today?" type of guy. After politely explaining that I was not prepared to make a decision he continued to ask "Why not?" I felt like he wanted to know my entire financial picture to figure out how he could talk me into a car. He was badgering me with questions, the answers to which, were none of his business. Eventually I told him that I was not going to argue with him about why I wasn't buying a car today and I left. I was actually going to buy the car that I test drove. I have been thinking about it for a while and I wanted to get in to a dealership to see what the pricing would be and how much I could get for a trade in. I wanted to go home and crunch the numbers in my budget before making such a big decision, to be certain I was ready. I'm pretty sure that's what you are supposed to do, as a financially responsible adult! Go to the dealership and get some hard numbers to make sure they match with what you researched online and planned for. Sorry Adam. Whoever that "Fleet" guy was ruined it for you. I will NEVER go to this dealership again!
