  • Don't go to Boston Dental and Dr. Rosales! If I had I read the reviews on yelp, I would not have made an appointment. It was my worst dental experience! After The Boston Dental visit, I had a second opinion with a reputable dentist who thoroughly explained my dental problems and gave me options for treatment. I responded to the coupon in the mail: the $59 special for exam, cleaning, and x-rays. I had a toothache and was close to needing my six month maintenance cleaning that I've had regularly for decades. Less than five months ago, I had a full set of x-rays so did not require any additional ones. Dr. Rosales & staff are cheerful and friendly. He did not do an oral cancer screening. He did not check the mucosa on the inner cheeks, sides and beneath the tongue, floor of the mouth, palate, nor palpate the lymph nodes. When I asked about a display that showed a high technology device to help detect oral cancer, I was told that the charge would be $30 on the next visit. The doctor did find an obvious problem with a molar with a failed root canal while examining the x-rays. The offending upper tooth had a gold crown with a root canal done 25 years ago by an Endodontist specialist. Dr. Rosales's only option for me was to have it extracted. I would forever lose the chewing on that tooth and the opposing one. I had to ask if I could go to an Endodontist for a second opinion to possibly save the tooth. I had no toothache, no mobility, and no signs of any infection (pus.) He mentioned that indeed yes, it may be possible to save the tooth with a "reverse root canal " called an apico-ectomy. After my suggestion, he referred me out to a specialist to save the molar. He may have been thinking that I might not come back to get the tooth pulled for his $175 fee. After Dr. Rosales's inspection of my gums, he commented that I did not have any pockets greater than 3 mm. However, I was later told by the new Dentist that I had a 9 mm pocket which would need periodontal surgery. Dr. Rosales failed to diagnose the severe localized periodontal disease. My chief complaint was a toothache on the opposing lower tooth with intermittent pain. No pain from hot, cold, nor chewing. After Dr. Rosales examined the tooth, he mentioned that I might need a filling on my roots. My new dentist showed me a cavity that was obvious on the chewing surface. I could see the cavity holding the mirror. He used a device called a pulp tester to compare low voltage to it and a different tooth for a baseline test for diagnostics. It did not need a filling on the roots, it required a small cavity removed on the occlusal then some desensitizing medicine placed below the new filling. Wow, the simple fix of a one surface filling stopped the toothache and saved the tooth. The cleaning was the worst ever at Boston Dental. No hygienist. Dr. Rosales spent a couple minutes with a hand scaler on several teeth. He then used the cavitron scaler with water working only on the backs of the lower four front teeth. Less than 5 minutes of his effort to clean all the teeth. He told the assistant to finish up with the polishing. She skipped every other tooth. She did not polish the backs nor the chewing surfaces of any of the teeth. A 15 minute cleaning. No clean refreshed feeling after a prophylaxis. When I got home and looked in the mirror, I could see stain and plaque on all my teeth between the teeth and along the gum line. They did not give me a toothbrush like most dental offices do after a cleaning. Be cautious about risking you and your family's dental health. Beware!
