| - ADT Security Services - Treating customers like a one night stand
I sold my home and ADT just hit my bank with a charge of $812.59. Why you ask? Well I contacted my local ADT representative Paul R and he told me that the new owners decided to go with COX for their security service. Funny, the security system that I had in the old house was there when I activated the ADT service. I didn't get new equipment. It was pre-existing. So according to Paul R they charged me $812.59 for an alarm system that I never installed because the new homeowners prefer Cox. Interestingly, I didn't activate the ADT service immediately. The alarm system / equipment was in place for 7 months before I activated the service. So did they charge the previous customer for cancelling their service when I failed to activate the service too? Only a subpoena for customer records will tell. I called Paul and he told me that he has to reach out to the billing department to see if they will reverse the charge but it is going to take a few days because they only respond to e-mail. Yeah. Officially I have no faith in their ability to refund my account. Now some may say, "let your credit card company / bank fight the battle for you" and I agree but it shouldn't have to be that way. With that said I have some advice for anyone that has issues with ADT.
If you are not in a contract with ADT, find another security company.
If you are in a contract, bide your time and once it is up, run.
Post a factual Yelp review and warn others
If you happen to have thousands of Facebook friends - tell them all to avoid or dump ADT. Remember they are publicly traded.
If like me, you have 3,065 LinkedIn connections, write an article about your experience that will be shared with your network and beyond. Make sure the article gets to the desk of their CEO, Tim Whall.
Reach out to family members. I personally have 6 that I know of that use ADT. Each of them is worth $600 - $700 a year. Have them cancel their services. Find more ADT customers and share your story.
Are you one of those people that is part of a private Facebook group for your neighborhood or former neighborhood? You may have access to 600 people in your neighborhood. Share your story in these private groups. Block ADT from doing business with your neighbors.
If you happen to have a friend who is a state Senator or other elected official, tell them your story and ask them to look into ADT and their business practices.
Have a friend with a local radio show? Call in a favor and put ADT on blast.
File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
File a complaint with the FTC.
File a complaint with the Rip Off Report.
File a complaint with Adam Paul Laxalt (Attorney General).
File a complaint with the Nevada Department of Business and Industry.
Look online and see which of the numerous class action lawsuits you can join.
If they play dirty, fight like Hell and make sure that every dollar they took costs them 10 times as much in lost business. $812.59 for equipment that I didn't install - not worth it ADT.
