| - Having Lived in Vegas for a few years back in the Mid 90's and spending many a weekend here too many to count over the years, I tend to simply Check into my Hotel of choice avoid the hectic strip, taxi's, etc and dine in my hotel or within walking distance of another Hotel. Having to meet a friend of mine for dinner outside the hotel didn't originally appeal to me, but he insisted on Going to Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House off Paradise / Flamingo here in Las Vegas. So 8PM off I head in my taxi and low and behold, as I'm approaching the restaurant my phone rings and my dinner buddy has an emergency at home and won't be joining me. Well what to do at this point, hell I was already in the parking lot I'm having dinner and BOY AM I HAPPY I DID!
Arrived to a well appointed old style Steak house with white table cloths rich mahogany, a nice large bar that had live piano music and vocals (Always a plus). I decide to dine at the bar and was greeted by Trisha who proceeded to explain the various specials, options etc. Being solo at this point I kept it simple. Trish recommended the house cabernet which was produced specifically for Del Frisco's Vegas. A very nice Napa cab, big, rich, chunky and tasty. $14.95 for a very generous pour. (NICE)
Chopped Salad to start accompanied by nice Hot home baked bread and sweet whipped butter. Very nice salad, cold lettuce just the right amount of dressing, very tasty. Being from NJ originally bread outside of the Garden State tends to leave you wanting more, and in this case there is no exception to the rule. Good but certainly nothing to write home about.
Moving on to the main battle Royal was the 26 ounce Double Eagle NY Strip on the Bone which is their signature dish ($59.95- Regular 16 oz strip $39.95). Requested "Charred Medium rare plus". Trish also recommended the Garlic whipped mashed potatoes with skins left on mixed with chives. Let me just stop right here and tell you perhaps one of the top 3 NY Strips I've ever had in my life and I've had many. Tough to remember them all but this was a mountain of meat, cooked to absolute perfection on a very hot plate that allowed the red portion to cook to perfect temperature.
Not too much bone and the taste was incredible. Perfect amount of charred and it needed no salt, pepper nothing it was in word PERFECT. The Potatoes (9.95) where the perfect accoutrement and unfortunately dining alone I wished I could have split another side, perhaps a lobster tail, vegetable etc, but as it was I was so stuffed I couldn't even move when I completed this perfect meal but there is always next time.
I declined desert, hopped a taxi back to my hotel and can state without hesitation this is a MUST VISIT for anyone in Las Vegas locals or others. The staff was friendly, attentive, the piano music / vocals fantastic and a great touch and Trisha at the bar is an absolute sweetheart, thanks again JERSEY GIRL!
Put this one on you don't miss list you won't be disappointed.
