| - I called several electricians to get quotes on replacing a ballast on my ceiling light. At first, Mister Sparky told me they don't quote over the phone, but when I explained that I already had the ballast in hand and it was a 15-minute job, they quoted me $79, and then dropped it to $59. When the tech actually showed up, he quoted me $149 plus tax. I was upset, telling him I'd been quoted much lower. He said the $59 was only the dispatch fee, and installation was much higher. As it turned out, they charged me $166 for a job that took ten minutes. And that's their minimum price. Ridiculous. The prices were set on a laminated card, so there's no reason they couldn't quote over the phone when I described exactly what the job was going to be. I was going to give them one star, but since the tech was punctual, I'll give them another. But the pricing and the bait-and-switch tactics are outrageous.
