| - I don't get over to Olbrich Gardens much, but when I do I'm never disappointed... especially when I'm going to their "Crackle, Fire, & Froth" event! I've attended the past 4-5 years and have really lucked out with beautiful fall weather. For this annual event they fill the main lawn with large bonfires, hire a rockin' band, and serve up some tasty food provided by local restaurants, and food trucks. They usually have a make your own S'mores kit and this year you could cook your own hot dog over the fire, too. Such a fun idea for kids and adults alike.
Admission is a bit in the pricy side, but well worth it! The past few years they have also displayed their GLEAM lighted art instillation throughout the gardens during their Crackle, Fire, and Froth event. Which basically means you get to attend two events for the price of one. (Although, we did go back to see GLEAM again in mid October, grabbed a glass of wine, and thought it was just as good the second time around.)
On side notes:
1. Olbrich has a beautiful conservatory with tropical plants and a few select birds that fly and hop around. Quail are among a few that call the conservatory their home. It's a great place to pop in and instantly feel like you're in Florida--especially in the middle of a Wisconsin winter. They also host cocktails in the conservatory where adult beverages are available for purchase and you can walk around listening to smooth beats from a local DJ.
2. Olbrich opened their beer garden this summer! I haven't been, but have heard great things. It's across the street from the gardens, right on lake Monona. I'll post another review once I check it out next summer!
