| - We have three cats and two pups, so we make pretty regular trips for food, treats, toys, litter, etc. Yes, you'll find a lot of the same items at other locations, and sometimes for less money. However, part of why I shop pretty much exclusively at Mounds is because they're Wisconsin based. Another good reason to support them is that they work with local Humane Societies to raise money and provide pet adoptions. I'm perfectly fine with a few extra dollars here and there going towards local support of animals who need homes. Beyond those reasons, there is something to be said for one-stop-shopping. We can pick up what we need for all the household critters at the same time.
I'm also a huge fan of Patricia McConnell, PhD (Zoologist and Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, adjunct professor at UW-Madison), and they sell all of her training books here. I've purchased multiple copies of "The Other End of the Leash" as gifts and would suggest that title in particular to any dog owner.
I generally know what I'm going in for and don't need to ask for help, but after one of our dogs became blind the staff were extremely helpful when we came in looking for alternate toys that he can play with. They had multiple suggestions for toys which make sounds (i.e. crinkling, rattling) that he can follow the noise of and continue to play fetch. Win!
Occasionally they're notably short on the registers, which makes me wonder if they're continually short staffed or if they just man them with one person until they need help. Regardless, I try not to ever be in a hurry and won't let a few extra minutes of waiting upset me.
