  • I decided to gather a group of friends to learn and practice archery at Jim-Bows. Arriving on-site for the first time was a tad overwhelming as a newbie because you're completely surrounded by mysterious archery gear and there are more mounted animal heads in one place than I've ever seen in my life. Being that I'm from small town Saskatchewan, the rustic environment was not a surprise, but my city slicker friends were a tad dumbfounded. It was awesome. Our archery lesson (max group of three) was taught by Joe, who did a great job and has a good sense of humor. He provided a lot of direction and practicing was a riot. I wanted to jump up and down every time I landed an arrow in the yellow zone of my target. I've been back since with a group of six, which is the maximum size you can have if you're using the compound bows. The reservation is for two hours and that's all you need. Again, Joe was working and helped us out in terms of providing reminders and extra tidbits. Some of us noticed that to add to the ambiance, some background music would have been nice. I realize some people take their archery very seriously and want to concentrate, but we're also there to have fun. None of us are out to compete. I'm really enjoying this experience and I've already arranged another group outing, this time girls only. Everyone I've invited has ensured they'll have their compound bow lesson beforehand so they can participate. I received permission to bring some music and food, so this will enhance the experience even more. The staff have been great and I highly recommend that you give archery a try as an adult. I did it as a kid at camp but it's not the same experience at all. Many of us have talked about buying our own compound bows. Apparently Jim-Bows is relocating soon. It'll be close to its current location and the facility is likely to be improved. I can't wait to see it.
