| - It's always tough when I feel the need to give a business under two stars. I don't want to be negative, but I feel I must be honest. The fact is that the Chocolate Bar grossly under-achieves. For over-priced uninspired lattes you get to sit in a drab, dark, dull cafe. I've never taken to this place and don't know why people still come here when you can walk a few blocks east to Cafe Beano's, Good Earth or even Waves. All three places serve better coffee, tea and desserts, in my opinion, for about the same price.
It really is too bad because I live nearby and would love to have another coffee-dessert option in the area. However, I have been here a few times over the last few years and every time I go I am reminded why I don't go back. Case in point, my last visit.
We ordered two cakes to go here. The first was a slice of chocolate cake that was good, but not great. We also ordered a green tea cake that was so old we couldn't put a fork through it. It would, however, serve as a great hockey puck. There is no excuse for any place that sells desserts to serve something that old.
Sorry, but that is unacceptable! I don't think I can ever go back now.
