| - I had a disappointing experience with Jersey Electric & Solar. As a result I do not recommend that others do business with this company until they fix their contracting problems.
We met with a sales consultant, John, who seemed very competent and knowledgeable about his company and product. He told us that the company is reputable, stands behind its work (warranting both their service for 10 yrs as well as the manufacturer's warranty for 25 yrs), does not use subcontractors, works to code, and so on.
Everything seemed fine until we saw the contract that was presented to us. The contract terms conflicted with what we had been told, and we asked for the contract to be changed to reflect what John, and later Mr. Gregg Larson (the owner), had told us verbally.
For example, the contract has several paragraphs covering use of subcontractors. We were told that they don't use subcontractors except for stucco work. We asked that the contract reflect that we be notified prior to Jersey Electric hiring a sub.
As an additional example, the contract has a disclaimer of warranty which was very different than what was represented to us verbally. It states in bold text, "There are no implied warranties of merchantability and/or fitness for a particular purpose contained herein. There are no warranties of any type of nature, other than the Jersey Electric & Solar , Las Vegas warranty ..."
We asked for clarification that we would get the manufacturer's warranty, since this paragraph makes it unclear that we would actually get it.
Mr. Larson gave us a very hard time about our requests and flatly refused to modify his contract. He insisted that if we wanted these clarifications in the contract that we would have to write an addendum which he would review.
We wrote the contract addendum while on vacation, because we didn't want the project to delay.
Mr. Larson took three days to respond, and when he did, he wrote me in email that he didn't see any problems in the addendum, and that everything seemed fair, and that he simply wasn't going to sign it.
I was dumbfounded.
After an additional phone conversation with Mr. Larson, and waiting several more days for him to respond, we decided to find another contractor to do our work.
If you do consider this company, I strongly recommend that you make sure all their promises are captured, in writing, in the contract.
