My mom was admitted into the rehab facility about 3 yrs ago after breaking her hip at age 89yrs old. The staff did what they could to help but it was clear that she would never walk again on her own and needed 24 hour care, so she was transfered to long term care. At first she was put in the B unit (?? the middle building) where we were pretty much disgusted with the quality of care and of the staff in that unit. I wont go into details but I will say this, if you have loved ones in this area, get them out of there asap.
After, filing complaints and demanding a transfer, they moved my mom to the second floor where you have to be buzzed in and out by staff. This was good because my mom was an escape artist and determined to break out regardless of whether she could walk or not!! But the staff up there were kind and patient and understanding with my mom, they seemed to genuinely like her and amazingly enough she began to like them!! After awhile she settled in and we grew comfortable with the nurses and slowly began to trust that they were legit and not trying to abuse or kill our mom... lol. I cant remember all their names but Arturo, is THE MOST AWESOME caregiver. Cant thank him enough for his years of care and love for my mom. I dont mean to take anything away from the other nurses who cared for my mother becaise they were all great!! Also the puerto rican gal that does activities with everyone... loved her too!!
When my mom passed about a week ago, they were all there for her and for us. They were compassionate and gentle and loving and I just appreciate them all so much. Thank you to the entire 2nd floor staff, you are all angels in disguise and what makes that facility worthwhile.
