  • I have been going to Novelty for years and while I can't fault the majority of their work the thing that gives me pause for thought every time before going there is having to deal with their front-of-store person. Who knows, he might be the owner. But that doesn't matter, because this man has always been insufferably rude. On rare occasions he's remembered to take his happy pill, but I can count those experiences on two fingers. This morning I happened to catch him in the middle of his breakfast despite arriving there 10 minutes after opening. I already knew I was in for a bad experience when it was clear - judging from the usual sour look on his face - that I'd interrupted his busy day of eating. So it was no surprise that he took his sweet time coming to the front. When I presented him with a purse on which Novelty had recently replaced the zipper but had neglected to wipe away some residue glue, he looked at me as though I had five heads. According to him, there was no stickiness and this was all in my imagination. Instead of apologizing, getting out some cleaner right away and dealing with it, he continued to touch it and look at me with such defiance on his face that I think he fully expected me to walk away with my tail between my legs. Fortunately I'm not that person. Lousy customer service incenses me, especially when I've recently dropped $150 for repairs. So I stood my ground and he grudging walked away to get a can of leather spray. And when he returned, proceeded to angrily spray a layer of it an inch thick on the purse before even more angrily scrubbing it off. Sure enough, the stickiness I'd felt was then gone. When I mentioned this, he walked away, after throwing the can down and shuffling back to his god-forsaken breakfast. Nice attitude. I told him that after dropping a large amount of coin in his store a smile on his face wasn't too much to ask for. He ignored me and I then thanked him for his shitty customer service. I have never been so angered by this guy enough to write a review here but this morning I reached my breaking point. He knows that Novelty is pretty much the only game downtown, so overcharging and nasty attitude is apparently something we all have to put up with. Oh, did I mention the lifts on a pair of heels they replaced which basically disappeared within six wearings? FYI. Don't let the convenience of this place sway you. Find a shoe repair business elsewhere that is worth the money you spend. Above all, a business with employees who enjoy their job and know how to deal with the public.
