  • While I'm a fan of the Great Dane, this is not my favorite location. It seems to lack the same feel as the downtown or the Fitchburg location. We went this visit on a Friday night hoping to grab a quick bite to eat before heading home. We did get seated right away, but the service was slow. We were there after the dinner rush, so I would have expected a bit faster turn-around time. The food was good but the meatloaf came out marginally cold, we were so hungry at this point that I didn't send it back. Who knows how long it would have taken and we were in desperate need of eating to soak up the beer we were imbibing in. Speaking of beer... we tested out a couple of new beers (new to us) Landmark Lite and Grandpa's Candy (seasonal). The landmark was a nice light beer with real flavor. It's what Miller lite or Bud Light aspires to be. Grandpa's Candy is not a beer you want the kiddies getting into! It's a strong one at over 11% alcohol!!! They age it in brandy barrels and while I'm a bad Wisconsinite since I don't care for brandy, I do really like Grandpa's tasty treat! It's a nice sipping beer with a fruity, lightly sour flavor. This one should be kept in the line-up! So back to the food... Mad City Mama's BBQ Meatloaf- U.S.D.A. choice Angus chuck baked with tomato, garlic and herbs then grilled and basted with BBQ sauce. Topped with roasted red peppers, and haystack onions. Served with garlic mashed potatoes and market vegetables. Even with it being cold, it was delicious. I loved the haystack onions on the top. The portion was generous enough to leave leftovers for lunch the next day. Brown Ale Onion- A rich chicken and beef broth filled with pretzel croutons and beer-simmered onions, then baked with Wisconsin Swiss cheese until bubbling. Served in a twelve-ounce crock. Came out piping hot and was very good. The pretzel croutons were a bit charred for my liking. Any Great Dane is a solid choice but bottom line, if I can choose my location, I will stick to downtown.
