  • Never go to a big box store. I purchased a rifle online and went to pick it up. Cabela's has their own online version of the ATF Form 4473. If you misread a question, you're screwed. My purchase was denied, the employee would not tell me why, would not explain the form or my options, and not provide any additional information at all. They showed no interest in helping me because I was "out of state" (North Carolina literally one mile away). They told me I had to go get a background check from my county, even though I had in my possession a concealed carry permit which in itself requires a background check to obtain. I'm a US citizen, military veteran, no criminal record at all. What a joke. Becoming frustrated I elected to return my purchase (a technical issue as I had never actually taken possession of it). It took one employee and two managers 30 minutes to do it. All while the employee smirked at me like I was the problem. Same afternoon I went to a local shop in my county and had no issues at all. Always shop local, I'll never go to Cabela's again.
