| - I had been to this location a few times several years ago, when it was still Rip's. And while Rip's had a decent wing special, Deacons has really stepped up their game. The pub has been completely renovated, with creative seating arrangements that lend themselves to either group/public settings or more intimate conversations. My family have made Deacons a regular Monday afternoon stop for their $4.99 (now $5.99) steak sandwich special, and I finally joined them to check it out for myself.
Our waitress was very friendly and more than happy to make my minor adjustments - salad, no fries; dressing on the side; keep the cucumbers - and my meal arrived as requested. In order to take advantage of the special, you have to purchase a drink, which is easy enough as tea, coffee and soda - not just alcohol - are acceptable. My steak was cooked exactly as I ordered and was a nice, tasty cut, if a bit greasier than most, due to the oil used to cook it. The salad was a very nice selection of baby mixed greens, though my sister took advantage of the Caesar topped with sizable chunks of crispy bacon.
The dining area and bathrooms were clean, crisp and tidy, and the service was great. I stopped by in the early afternoon, so the pub had perhaps 8 diners and a handful of people enjoying the VLTs across the room. I'm not sure how packed this place gets during the evenings, but they feature a pretty varied and wallet-friendly special most days of the week. During the day, several televisions in the room boasted various sports events, but the sound level wasn't at all disturbing, given the number of clients. I'm sold.
