We took the 4.5-mile round-trip alternative route as the regular route was closed. I think we got lucky, we wasn't sure we should be going to that area or not. This is relatively long and much harder than the regular route because the regular route takes you to the mouth of the narrows. This alternative crosses private land, but far from where the owner's activities currently take place.
From town, drive out to Lake Mead, then drive north on Northshore Road for about 16 miles to the 16 Mile (Anniversary) Trailhead. From the trailhead, hikers can walk or drive 2WD-HC vehicles farther out Anniversary Mine Road.
At about 0.93 miles from the pavement, Anniversary Mine Road crosses a wash. You should park here in the wide spot on the east side; this is the trailhead for the alternate route to Anniversary narrows.
We saw a Jackrabbit on our hike to the narrows. Once in the narrows, I was so wowed by the amazing scenery. The tilted sedimentary rock layers paint beautiful lines throughout the canyons.
There was no one there and it was such a beautiful day. I am glad we made it.
