  • I will NEVER let someone I love stay in the care of HAVEN SENIOR HORIZONS again! My 65 year old mother suffers from an early onset dementia disease and was recommended to Haven Senior Horizons as a place to go to balance out her medications and help make her more cooperative in allowing caregivers to shower her etc. Her disease is new to us therefore, we have had to rely on advice from others when making decisions on my moms care. I had read the reviews before admitting her and I was concerned. However, I brought them to the attention of the staff at Haven and was assured that the bad reviews are not at all the norm and that the majority of the people leave the facility better off than when they arrived. NOT TRUE! I am writing this review with a very heavy heart because what I saw today and what our family has experienced is more than words can even describe. My mom does not suffer from any other illness or physical ailment other than dementia. She is young, vibrant , walks everywhere and shops with the best of us! Prior to her arrival that is. 10 days ago, when we dropped her off in their care, it was recommended that we allow my mom time to "adjust" and therefore we should probably stay away as to not upset her by visiting and then leaving. Well, even though we kept receiving good reports as to her progress, after 10 days without her, we really missed her and decided to drop by un-expectantly. After 10 DAYS at HAVEN SENIOR HORIZONS, she can no longer walk without help, is almost completely MUTE and has a lost, empty look in her eyes. She seems to be having trouble breathing and is shaking!!!! My mom was slumped in a chair in "group" like a complete vegetable to the point where she could barely turn her head to look in our direction. Her eyes were red rimmed and darting back and forth, she was too 'OUT OF IT' to smile at us or communicate anything to us at all! We immediately spoke to the staff and demanded to know what was going on. It turns out she was receiving INJECTIONS OF HALDOL EVERY 4 HOURS!!!! It was in her chart to use it if she was uncooperative and refused to take her regular meds (pills). Did anyone see what this was doing to her?! NEEDLESS TO SAY, we have requested immediate release and have demanded she not receive ANY injections for the remainder of today. The soonest we can get her out of there is tomorrow morning due to the paperwork. My sister and I spent our car ride home crying and feeling like we have left a loved one in HARMS WAY and are absolutely disgusted with the idea of knowing for the past 10 days, our MOM has been subjected to inhumane treatment.
