My review is sort of mixed. My son needed his first pair of glasses. Annual eye exams are covered by our HMO, so we used them for that. For the frame and lenses I thought I'd go local, so we went to Baldwin Eye Care. It's on Main Street and I have driven by it MANY times.
The optical technician was very nice. We had to wait a short while before she could help us (though there was no sign of anybody else being helped) and then she pointed out the kids' glasses and helped pick out a pair (based on my son's head size and face shape - kid has a pretty big noggin). That was the good part.
We ordered the glasses and returned to get them once they were done. That is the other part. My son is in school, and I work in the afternoon/evening. Baldwin Eye Care is open 8-5 Monday-Friday and closed from noon-1pm those days. I'm sure the hours are great for the employees, but they were a little inconvenient for us. So it took us almost a week before we could get in to pick up the glasses.
Once there the technician worked for a while to get the earpieces curved just right and gave us an additional case since the glasses no longer fit in the original case. This was much appreciated. She really did spend some time getting this just right.
The glasses weren't cheap. Definitely more costly than Walmart or Shopko, but I figured it would be that way since this is a hometown family business instead of a big chain.
